St. Agni
Byron-based brand St Agni is committed to encouraging slower consumption habits. If this sounds contradictory (especially coming from an apparel company), hear me out. With a monochrome color palette, simple leather accessories, and a strict focus on timeless tailoring in sustainable fibers such as linen to create long-lasting staple pieces, St Agni is confident that her pieces will transcend trends. I am.
Australian brands are also conscious of their social responsibility to the planet and its people. St Agni supports the funding and education of factories to become certified as ethical suppliers, for the benefit of their welfare and the industry as a whole.

Bardot
Australian-owned and family-run, Bardot was founded in 1996 and continues to have all products locally designed at its Melbourne headquarters. Helmed by founder and creative director Carol Skoufis for more than 23 years, the brand specializes in sensual creations that convey the zeitgeist without following trends.
Staying true to its ’90s origins, expertly cut slip dresses elegantly drape the body, ruffled minis are perfect for resort dressing, and hardworking denim is sculpted into intricate silhouettes. Dresses are in the brand’s DNA, but you can also expect sharp suits and outerwear that rival the big designer brands.

posse
Danielle Mullum was initially inspired by northern Sydney beach life when she founded Posse in 2016, but her brand has since evolved into more than just resort wear. This season, you’ll find crisp linen separates and summery dresses, as well as graphic knit pieces and relaxed tailored sets.
Muram has tried to keep the Posse as conscious as possible. We sell limited quantities every season, and only reproduce designs that are sure to sell out. She also eschews trend-driven drops in favor of core collections such as her permanent L’Essentials range, filled with timeless staples.
If you’re a fan of the UK-based brand and have been following its journey, you’ll be excited to know that Posse is now available on Luisaviaroma and you can now shop freely without any custom fees.

Shona Joy
Shona Joy
Shona Joy started as just a market stall on Bondi Beach in 2000. Fast forward to 2024, and the Sydney-based label has achieved global success, partnering with UK retailers such as Free People, Revolve, Harrods and Selfridges.
The label is best known here for its elegant bridesmaid collections, but we love the tailored separates, expertly cut dresses (Amada is the best interpretation of the milkmaid dress we’ve seen this summer) , and I’m also obsessed with bohemian resort wear.

spell
Spell was born in 2009 when sisters Isabella and Elizabeth moved to Byron Beach together and began selling handmade clothing at local markets. Fourteen years later, the bohemian brand has achieved global success with retailers such as Free People and Revolve.
Their duo’s family history is reflected in the dreamy campaign images. My work is inspired by my grandparents who fled war-torn Latvia and ended up in a refugee camp in Australia, my parents who lived as hippies in the 1970s, and my potters and craftsmen. This rich story can also be seen in their free-spirited works. Think breezy maxi dresses and beach-inspired separates in retro paisley and crochet.

Christopher Esber
Christopher Esber is the golden boy of the current fashion world. The Lebanese-Australian designer actually launched her brand in 2010, but spent most of the decade working in her hometown of Sydney, quietly building a loyal fanbase (as Australia Fashion Week is buzzing today). His existence is one of the reasons why. Now, the brand’s influence can be seen everywhere, with 1990s-inspired shapes, keyhole cutouts, and sensual straps. It also helps that the likes of Zendaya, Dua Lipa, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Emily Ratajkowski have been wearing his pieces.

Amelia Mather, founder of Boteh, is a woman who likes to take risks. She launched her resort wear brand in the height of the pandemic in October 2020 (no one was traveling or buying clothes!) and has just recently moved to Ibiza with her family (she launched her brand It truly embodies the nomadic atmosphere of the country).
These risks paid off. Bothe has enjoyed incredible success not only in his native Australia, but around the world. We’ve come to love this label for its in-house designed prints, ruched linens, crisp cotton fabrics, bohemian silhouettes, and unique swimwear.

camilla
Resort wear brand Camilla is all about prints, and all of their beautiful designs are hand-drawn and painted in-house by artists. And the brand’s new collaboration with Dutch pottery company Royal Delft (this iconic blue-and-white pottery has been around since 1653) is one of its most intricate prints to date. Its 47-strong design team is clearly busy.
Layered with luxurious silk chiffon, fringe trim, and sparkling embellishments, these pieces are truly works of art. No wonder Beyoncé, JLo, ELLE UK cover star Lizzo, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Miranda Kerr are all fans.

Hush is often mistaken for a British brand, but Australian founder Mandy started the label by importing products from Melbourne. To celebrate our 20th anniversary, Hush has been reimagined. The collection is now more directional than ever, with striking campaign imagery.
The brand started as a luxury sleepwear brand, so its evolution into glamorous evening pieces and smarter ready-to-wear feels bold and welcome in the post-pandemic era of comfortable casual. Our favorite item in the new range is the black double-breasted coat that we’ve already spotted at Lucy Williams.

daiji studio
Deiji Studios was founded in 2016 with the aim of blurring the line between bedding and sleepwear. The Australian brand has been successful. Its luxurious linen products drape, not wrinkle, just like your favorite sheets. Generously cut kimonos and wrap pajamas are refreshing yet weighty enough to get you through the winter and summer seasons. I also love the brand’s poplin cotton nighties (which double as summer dresses or beach cover-ups) and boxy looks that are too cool to hide at home.

MNK Atelier
MNK Atelier is a new Australian clothing brand you should know about, based in Sydney and run by sister duo Milly and Kobe Kan. This slow fashion label focuses on creating easy-to-wear staple pieces that bypass trend cycles. Sustainably sourced fabrics (prefer recycled materials when not using natural fibers). I love coordinating collections that can be mixed and matched to create multiple styling options.

Brother and sister duo Camilla Freeman Topper and Mark Freeman launched their eponymous brand 20 years ago, debuting at Australian Fashion Week in 2003. The womenswear brand is still based in Sydney and has since gone from strength to strength, opening 17 stores across Australia and stocking stores such as Harrods and Selfridges in the UK. Camila and Mark’s USP is easy-to-wear (and easy-to-style) pieces with a directional spin. Think eclectic tailoring and sculptural separates that blend elements of sports and streetwear.

Zimmermann
Zimmermann
Sisters Nicky and Simone Zimmerman founded their eponymous brand in 1991. What began as a passion project for the pair to create clothes to sell at market stalls in their parents’ garage in Sydney has expanded into a globally recognized luxury brand. In fact, it’s one of Australia’s most well-known brands.
Zimmermann is perhaps best known for its striking prints (all designed in-house) and unique approach to the fusion of resort, swim, and ready-to-wear. And you’ve probably spotted it on Dua Lipa, BeyoncĂ©, Kendall Jenner, and Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales.

By using natural, organic fabrics and focusing on Australian suppliers, Bassike has been responsibly environmentally conscious since its inception, before sustainability was considered a fashion imperative. The brand added denim to its main line in 2007 and now includes menswear, swimwear, shoes, accessories and a children’s line.

Oroton
.
Founded in Sydney in 1938, Oroton is Australia’s oldest luxury fashion company. The brand’s roots were in textile exports, but it quickly moved into fashion design, creating metal mesh bags in the 1950s and later chainmail and sequin versions for the likes of Gianni Versace and Paco Rabanne.
The brand’s current creative director, Sophie Holt, revived Oroton in 2018, introducing new sustainability goals and changing its aesthetic. While she stays true to the brand’s roots by focusing on handbags (of which Meghan is a fan), she also shows off the perfect ready-to-wear pieces every season at Australian Fashion Week.

Sleeping with Jacques may have started as a nightwear brand, but its luxurious pieces are too good to hide at home. Fashion’s current trend towards ruched, relaxed silhouettes has paved the way for comfortable clothing that can be worn as loungewear or evening wear. If you only buy one thing from this Australian-based label, choose the velvet Bon Vivant pajama suit. Pair it with slides for a casual dinner, strappy stilettos for a party, or slippers at home.

forever new
Consider Forever New, the Australian version of the UK’s Topshop (RIP). This high street label made its way across the pond via ASOS two years ago, and to put it lightly, we’ve lapped it up here.
The brand’s USP? Ultra-feminine dresses (think milkmaid bodices, puffed sleeves, flirty florals) and glamorous party pieces (retro jumpsuits and plenty of sequins), as well as bridal and weddings. Perfect for guest dresses. The best part is the brand’s inclusive approach to sizing. Choose from regular, petite and tall options, as well as up to UK 26 curved pieces.
