What’s it like organizing fashion shows in different cities? Here’s my story. My name is Ariel Lee. I am a senior majoring in Strategy and Corporate Communications with a minor in Graphic Design. This summer, I had the exciting opportunity to intern at Fashion Week House, a creative marketing agency based in El Segundo, California.
As a marketing and graphic design intern, I created and edited content for Fashion Week House’s social media channels, specifically for the annual fashion runway shows in Miami, California, New York, and Paris. It was a very moving experience to see my work helping to promote these important events. In addition to content creation, I also had the opportunity to assist with product design for these shows.
My main focus was managing the agency’s Instagram and TikTok platforms. I use Canva to use my graphic design skills to create and edit engaging reels showcasing upcoming fashion week events. These reels also featured fashion brands walking the runway and brand partnerships hosting pop-up shops at the event. Although each team member was assigned individual tasks, we worked together to brainstorm themes and visuals that best captured the essence of each runway show. For example, when working on content for Miami Swim Week, we decided that Lille should evoke the vibrant party life of the beach, while for New York Fashion Week we wanted to evoke the city’s chic and bright nightlife. I decided to focus on
In addition to creating content, I utilized my photojournalism skills to edit the lighting and focus of each image and video to ensure that every reel looked polished and professional. It was important to adjust the timing and schedule of each post to maximize engagement. Thanks to my previous experience managing the Labradors and Friends Instagram page with SCC 400 Message Design II, I can confidently track Fashion Week Haus’ engagement metrics and create strategies for my team to increase viewership and likes. I was able to talk with you.
While I thoroughly enjoyed the creative process of developing social media content, I really wanted to further develop my product design skills, especially when it came to packaging fashion and beauty products. I expressed this interest to my boss, CEO Kachita Hines, and she graciously accepted the unique task of designing VIP gift bags for California Style Week. The project also included brainstorming custom designs for the items inside the bag.
The process was similar to a graphic design class, as we researched styles and tactics to determine the look and aesthetic of our gift bags. We took inspiration from Pinterest and focused on ideas that convey a California bohemian and beach vibe. Cachita guided me through the process of communicating professionally and effectively with sellers, from discussing delivery dates and negotiating prices to making sure the bags were customized to our specifications. Ta. We also created a mockup of the “California Style Week” label with the company’s typeface and overall mood board for the runway show in mind.
Overall, my time working at Fashion Week House was an enriching experience that gave me a deeper insight into the fashion industry. It fueled my passion for product design, especially for makeup brands, and motivated me to continue learning how to create even more high-quality social media posts and reels. I am excited to be able to utilize these skills and experience as I explore new opportunities in the world of graphic design and marketing in the future.
