Jordan Spieth went viral on his podcast featuring host Nico Colsaerts and George Harper Jr. with guest Danny Willett. In the interview, Willett was asked if it was awkward accepting the green jacket from Jordan Spieth minutes after defeating him in the 2016 final. Masters Tournament. Willett simply said, “Fortunately, it’s Jordan.” He elaborated on Spieth’s accomplishments during the same period, adding: Jordan is a class act. ”
Willett understood how cruel it would be for the runner-up to wear the green jacket on the winner after coming so close to winning himself. “It’s tough because it’s literally 10, 12 minutes after it’s over,” he said. Willett was still in shock after winning the Masters Tournament, but acknowledged how Spieth worked even after losing in the major.
Another fact to consider is that if Spieth had won the Masters that year, it would have been his third consecutive major championship. He would have been in the record books like Tiger Woods, who accomplished the feat earlier. Willett continued. “He literally falls out. Then he has to put on a suit and put on his boots and go back to Butler,” he continued, emphasizing how harsh the scenario was.
But that wasn’t the only time Willett remembered his experience at the Masters Tournament. He gave a glimpse of what it felt like to have to give up his jacket. Let’s see what he said.

Danny Willett went on to add how different it was for him the following year at the 2017 Masters Tournament. “The next year, when Sergio (Garcia) was winning, I missed the Cup and was sitting on the balcony drinking wine. So I had a lot of time to actually sit there and enjoy it.” In that case, Willett would advance to the third round of the 2017 Masters Tournament.

Describing his feelings at the time, Willett said: “So I think I probably cried because I realized how much it meant, not just to Serge, but to his family, to everyone, and to want that jacket on a friend,” Willett said in 2017. He said it didn’t matter who won, he would have been just as happy to hand them the green jacket. He said, “It would have been either Rosie (Justin Rose) or Sergio, but either way it would have been unrealistic…You know, it would be great if we could do that too.”
