LOS ANGELES — The world of reality TV is about to get a little more fashionable thanks to Hulu’s new show “Dress My Tour.”
Hosted by Kate Upton, the competition series challenges aspiring designers to use their skills to create performance outfits for musicians such as JoJo Siwa, Paula Abdul, French Montana, Koy LeRae, Toni Braxton and Ty Dolla $ign. Emmy Award-winning costume designer Marina Toybina and creative director, choreographer and Emmy-nominated director LaurieAnn Gibson serve as judges for the designers.
“This is different from other competition series,” Upton told On the Red Carpet. “It has a high-energy performance aspect to it, so it’s a real event, but it also gives you a behind-the-scenes look at how the musicians prepare for their costumes and their performance moments.”
In addition to serving as judges, Gibson and Toybina will also mentor the contestants, helping them make the crucial decisions on stage that will determine the success or failure of their designs.
These highly creative designers are looking to make a name for themselves in a fiercely competitive industry, which makes for some tense moments throughout the season.
“Some of them have amazing personalities, but that’s what happens when you put a bunch of creative people together,” Upton explains, “so we really encouraged them to be good people and good collaborators.”
“It’s an exciting, energetic show with so many talented designers you’ll want to root for. I’m sure everyone will enjoy it.”
The entire season of “Dress My Tour” will be available on Hulu tomorrow.
The Walt Disney Company is the parent company of Hulu and the ABC network.
