Gen Z gives campaign tips to Kamala Harris

After US President Joe Biden dropped out of the 2024 presidential race and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor, the internet has been abuzz with hilarious reactions.

From coconut memes to life-like art via the HBO comedy show “Veep,” a potential Harris presidency has truly piqued the interest of those who are constantly online.

Harris is also keen to add fuel to the fire and has already made some selective moves directly targeting this market: By tapping into the star power of Charlie XCX and Chapel Lawn, VP Kamala is tapping directly into Gen Z’s appetite for the platform.

Starting with Brat Summer, Harris renamed her Rapid Response X account to “KamalaHQ” and adopted a new Brat Green banner image, while her X profile now reads “Momala,” a reference to a joke made by Drew Barrymore when the vice president appeared on her talk show.

Soon after, the potential Democratic presidential nominee posted a TikTok video set to a soundtrack of Chapel Lawn’s catchy pop hit “Femininomenon.”

Some may lament that Harris is pandering to the younger generation, but all we know is that they seem to respond to her.

Already, TikTok users have been supporting Harris 2024 since Biden left office, posting the words “Project Coconut is on” in Kamala-related comment sections.

Fellow Democratic pioneer Alexandria Ocasion has also jumped on the bandwagon, pledging her full support to Kamala’s upcoming election campaign.

Meanwhile, Gen Z Swifties are encouraging the Harris 2024 team to take a Taylor Swift-esque approach to the campaign.

“Kamala Harris needs to campaign like a Taylor Swift album release,” Jake Dayton suggested on TikTok, which has now been liked more than 302,000 times.

From clearing his social media feeds to using a Swift soundtrack for his campaign announcements, Deighton has an entire (and pretty good) Tay-inspired strategy at work.

Elsewhere on TikTok, someone going by the name “Evan” has already created a mashup of Kamala’s famous coconut tree reference and Taylor Swift’s “Look What You Made Me Do.” Unsurprisingly, it’s a perfect match.

Can Harris ride this wave to become president? Maybe Taylor can help…
