Earlier this year, Euphoria actress Sydney Sweeney was named the first global ambassador for Korean beauty brand Laneige. The makeup and skincare brand, which has been around since the ’90s, is beloved for its ultra-hydrating water- and hyaluronic acid-based moisturizers, as well as sleeping masks for face and lips. “It can be a long journey to find the right products for your skin, so I’m happy to support a brand that I personally use,” Sweeney says.
Maintaining the health and appearance of skin has always been important to the White Lotus star. “I always double cleanse, which is important when I’m wearing makeup or traveling, and I also moisturize with a sleeping mask,” she says. Sweeney is also a big advocate of using sunscreen, revealing that while filming last year’s romantic comedy Anyone But You, she slathered it on to protect her skin from the harsh Australian sun. “I was the only one on set who didn’t get a tan,” she says.
Sweeney, 26, also enjoys dressing up on the red carpet. At this year’s Met Gala, which takes place every May at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, she channeled old Hollywood glamour in a fairytale blue tulle Miu Miu gown, black gloves and a chic black bob. Despite her glamorous red carpet looks, Sweeney admits that she’s more reserved in her everyday life. “In everyday life, I’m definitely a jeans and T-shirt, no-face girl,” she says.
Below, Sweeney shares with CNN Underscored her top five beauty and fashion must-haves.
The actress previously used Laneige’s Water Sleeping Mask to keep her skin hydrated, but has now switched to this editor-favorite mask, which she leaves on overnight. Made with peony and collagen complex, the mask locks in moisture and nourishes skin while you sleep. “This mask has little balls of collagen in it, which your skin loves,” she says. “You wake up and your skin is hydrated, radiant, and bouncy.” Sweeney is also a big fan of the brand’s Vanilla Lip Sleeping Mask, which she uses “all day, every day.”
Sweeney completes her off-duty look with a simple white t-shirt from Cotton On, a brand that specializes in affordable, high-quality everyday basics. The brand’s signature tees and tank tops start at $20, with most items costing under $100. “I discovered Cotton On while filming in Australia and fell in love with it,” she says. This classic organic t-shirt is made from 100% organic cotton and features a relaxed fit and a timeless crew neck.
Sweeney swears by this affordable kitchen and beauty staple, who slathers it on her body for smooth, hydrated skin. “I order this coconut oil from Amazon and it’s amazing,” Sweeney says. “It smells great and feels so good on the skin.”Available in three sizes, this cold-pressed, unrefined, extra virgin coconut oil can be applied topically or used in cooking.
Constant travel for work and hours spent on hair and makeup have taken their toll on Sweeney’s hair. “Right now, my hair is really lifeless and I have terrible split ends,” says the actress, who is also a global brand ambassador for Kérastase. To remedy the situation, she turns to the brand’s Ultra Nourishing Hair Elixir. “I love using this hair oil, it really helps bring life back into my hair,” she says. Formulated with a blend of antioxidants, essential fatty acids, and argan, camellia and marula oils, the hair product conditions and energizes hair.
While Sweeney says she’s “more comfortable experimenting and exploring different styles and shapes” on the red carpet, she’s much more comfortable in jeans and a T-shirt. She cites the iconic Levi’s 501 jeans as one of her favorites. With a hint of vintage vibe, the mid-rise jeans are made from 100% cotton, have a relaxed straight fit and a five-pocket design.
