The 43rd Annual CFDA Fashion Awards took place tonight at the American Museum of Natural History, and once again guests gathered beneath the iconic blue whale to toast the best of American fashion. The evening was hosted by Cynthia Erivo, who wore a custom look from Gap by Zac Posen to honor her upcoming red carpet role as Elphaba in Wicked. Maintained (or not maintained). Raul Lopez of Luar is the night’s first recipient of American Accessories Designer of the Year.
Other designers honored tonight include Watch Hunger Stop, Delivering God’s Love, and Michael Kors, who received the Positive Change Award for his work with the United Nations World Food Program. Stuart Vevers will receive an Amazon Innovation Award for his work with Coachtopia, a sub-brand he launched last year with a focus on circularity and sustainability. Daniel Rosebery of Schiaparelli receives the International Designer Award. And Stephen Burrows won a Lifetime Achievement Award for wowing the Parisian fashion crowd at the Battle of Versailles in 1973. Cuban-American designer Isabel Toledo, who passed away from cancer in 2019, not only won the Board of Directors Award, but the award was renamed in her honor. This will henceforth be known as the Isabel Toledo Board Tribute.
Photographer Annie Leibovitz will also be recognized tonight and will receive the Media Award in honor of Eugenia Shepherd. Meanwhile, the Founder’s Award honoring Eleanor Lambert will be presented to Hamish Bowles, editor-in-chief of Vogue and creative director of World of Interiors magazine. Incomparable singer-songwriter Erykah Badu has been crowned this year’s Fashion Icon Award.
