At what age is it too late to play with dolls? The sky’s the limit for Gen Z fans obsessed with Sonny Angel, the 3-inch-tall Japanese miniature figures that are captivating young people around the world. Young New Yorkers, obsessed with the compact, angelic dolls, have been known to wait in long lines for the latest releases. On Wednesday, miniature doll merchant Emma Tollison, 20, was patiently waiting outside Anne Me, an East Village toy store, to be among the first to get her hands on a new dinosaur line of dolls. Sonny Angel figures, displayed in their original packaging…
Looking at the industry as a whole, he believes it’s time to rethink luxury pricing and oversupply. His experience at the outlets told him what prices people are willing to pay in the current climate. “We were selling the best branded items for maybe just 20% of their original price. Branded items can’t survive this.”Returning to the upcoming sale, Saul will be filling his and Mulberry’s stories into his notes and curation of the auction catalogue, but how do you think he’ll be feeling on the actual day? “Oh, I don’t know, I’m on holiday in Tresco,” he shrugs. Car Culture Continues: Hagerty’s “Future of Driving” Study Reveals Gen Z is America’s Next Generation of Car Enthusiasts
TORONTO, Ontario — Gen Z is showing a greater interest in car culture than Baby Boomers, according to a 2024 Hagerty Insurance survey. Specifically, the “Future of Driving” study, which polled more than 2,000 Americans about the role cars play in their lives, noted that 60 percent of Gen Zers expressed a strong interest in cars, compared to just 31 percent of Baby Boomers. Additionally, 77% of Gen Z respondents said they love or enjoy driving. Respondents also said they have owned or currently own a classic car enthusiast vehicle, with 32% and 30% of Gen Z and Millennials, respectively.…
Editor’s note: Outright International has given permission for the Washington Blade to republish this editorial from their website. Shortly after the Fourth International Conference on Small Island Developing States, held in Antigua and Barbuda in May 2024, the Caribbean is facing a historic event. Hurricane Beryl, described as the earliest Category 5 hurricane to occur in the Atlantic Ocean, struck the Caribbean in the first week of July 2024. Hurricane Beryl caused devastating damage to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada, and Jamaica, and caused varying degrees of damage in Saint Lucia and Barbados. Hurricane Beryl follows a rise in…
Plume Creative/DigitalVision via Getty Images Earlier this year, I took a look at ELF Beauty Inc. (NYSE:ELF) stock, whose eye, lip and face products have been one of the big, growing darlings of the affordable cosmetics industry, and frankly, the market as a whole. The adoption of these affordable beauty products, especially among millennials, has created real momentum for the industry and its stock price. This momentum continues into 2024 and is entirely explained by the strong sales momentum, but the (realistic) earnings multiple is rather high here, and too high for me. Large scale execution Elf went public in…
Do you speak Gen Z? As Kamala Harris’ presidential bid is labelled “sassy” by Charlie XCX fans, take our quiz to find out if you can keep up with the lingo of the TikTok generation
Elmira Tanatarova 2024-07-26 16:10 Updated 2024-07-26 16:33 Share or comment on this article: Scroll through social media and you’ll see that complex Gen Z slang has taken over common speech, making you realise your English may not be as good as you thought it was. Many may be confused by what their younger peers are saying, as they claim to be having a “sassy girl summer” with their “rat boyfriends” who wear “revealing” clothes. But the slang of the TikTok generation has made its way into the US presidential election, and there seems to be no escaping it. Pop culture has…
When the great science fiction author Octavia Butler wrote her masterpiece, Parable of the Sower, in 1993, she imagined her 15-year-old protagonist, Lauren Olamina, starting the Earthseed Journal on July 20th, 2024. Though that date has only just passed, reporter Aina Marzia says Butler’s work resonates strongly with readers of Gen Z. In a new article for YES! that explores the source of this familiarity, Marzia argues that Butler’s solutions to late capitalism are inspiring a new generation grappling with the dystopian realities of our time. Marzia, a journalist from El Paso, Texas, and a freshman at Princeton University, spoke…
Russian politicians fighting to protect so-called “traditional” values have turned their attention to the country’s vibrant music scene, lambasting pop stars for performances and costumes that are deemed too revealing or sexualized. Pop singer Natalia Chistyakova-Ionova, best known by her stage name Glukoza, was embroiled in a scandal last week after her performance in the Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk was highlighted by pro-Kremlin censorship activist Ekaterina Mizulina. “Glucoza appeared on stage in a lewd manner and touched his genitals. [during the performance]”…in front of thousands of children,” Mizulina wrote in Telegram. “The residents of Krasnoyarsk are outraged and want the…
