Renowned fashion designer Zerina Akers has officially opened an innovative social club in Los Angeles called St. Helen’s House. The multifaceted club, which offers wellness activities, an education center and workspace, is also home to Akers’ recently opened fashion rental showroom, “The Show Must Go On.” Akers’ company announced in a press release that the showroom will display a wide selection of luxurious gowns, suits, shoes, accessories and more.
Additionally, the showroom also features an art gallery curated by Los Angeles-based artist Erin Christobale. Art pieces on display in the showroom are also available to purchase. Ackers takes the showroom experience to a new level by offering in-showroom try-ons and personalized fashion consultations with Ackers herself and other experts. Monthly events include art shows, pop-ups and collaboration opportunities. St. Helen’s is typically open to the public by appointment, but special member access is also offered, offering exclusive benefits.
“I’m proud to open St. Helen’s House and bring ‘The Show Must Go On’ showroom to Los Angeles,” Akers said in a press release. “St. Helen’s House is a lifestyle destination where elite creatives can enjoy wellness activities, explore art, and participate in cultural events while cultivating community in Los Angeles. This space is both a culmination of my passion for personal styling and an investment in circular fashion, which is needed here in Los Angeles for people looking to look stand out.”
As reported by Essence magazine, Akers collaborated with Beyoncé to launch the popular e-commerce site Black Owned Everything in 2020. Following his latest venture, Akers stressed the importance of uplifting young people.
“I would love to give back in this space, to teach young people how to get into the fashion industry and to run weekend classes on this,” Akers told Essence magazine. “I think this is a great outlet for all the women I’ve met, from influencers to celebrities to stylists. They’re all C-suite level women. Opening it up to the general public instead of just focusing on stylists has really changed things for us. We’ve got a community of underserved women attending the same events. They’re managers, presidents, CEOs, they’re attending galas and awards ceremonies.”
