Bella Thorne claimed that people using Ozempic in Hollywood were promoting “abnormal beauty standards.”
The actress posted a video to her Instagram Stories on Saturday in which she can be seen standing in a blue leopard print bikini.
In the candid clip, Bella spoke about how she believes Ozempic, a drug traditionally used as an anti-diabetes medication called semaglutide, has had a far-reaching impact on her body image.
“So I haven’t been happy with my body for a while,” she said. “Especially because everyone who’s on Ozempic is kind of setting this crazy standard of beauty that no one who’s not on Ozempic can keep up with.”
In recent years, use of the drug has sparked controversy in showbiz, with celebrities using it to lose or maintain weight.
However, Bella claimed she was never motivated to try the product.
“I swam every day, I sweated as much as I could, I walked everywhere,” the 26-year-old continued, “and now I’m finally happy with myself, OK?”
“Now that I’m finally feeling better, Ozempic, you…” she declared, before ending with a raised middle finger, “…stop.”
Bella is great at updating her fans about her life and health through her social media platforms.
In February, she posted a “mental health check-in” while experiencing a period of depression.
“My mental state is not good. If crying all night is one, I’m at a 10,” she said.
“It’s important to make these videos because when you look on social media you see happy faces, great hair, great makeup, everything,” Star continued. “Even making this list makes me feel more depressed, but I want to say it’s okay to feel depressed.”
