Watch Donald Trump pay tribute to Cory Comperatore
After accepting the Republican nomination, former President Donald Trump offered condolences to Corey Comperatore, a supporter who was killed at one of his rallies.
Corey Comperatore, a firefighter who was killed during the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, appeared in a fire suit during Trump’s acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee on Thursday night.
Trump mentioned Comperatore’s death during his speech, saying he had called Comperatore’s family and kissed the firefighter’s helmet. The last name on a jacket held up onstage was misspelled as “Competore,” as was a photo of the fire station released after Comperatore’s death.
Trump also told the crowd that he would present checks for $1 million to Comperatore’s family and the families of two others seriously injured in the shooting.
An official GoFundMe campaign for the victims of the shooting had raised more than $5.3 million as of Thursday night.
Trump accepted the Republican nomination after telling the crowd his version of how the assassination attempt happened.
Who is Corey Comparatore?
Comperatore, a native of Thurber, Pennsylvania, who served with the Buffalo Township Fire Department, had two daughters and was an ardent Trump supporter.
“Time stopped yesterday,” his daughter Allison Comperatore wrote on Facebook, “and when it started moving again, my family and I began living our real-life nightmare.”
“Corey was a girl’s father. Corey was a firefighter,” Shapiro told reporters on Sunday. “Corey went to church every Sunday. Corey loved his community and especially his family.”
