Diving overview:

EBay is partnering with the Council of Fashion Designers of America and the British Fashion Council to launch the first Pre-Loved Fashion Week, according to a news release Wednesday. According to a release, the event will feature a shoppable live runway show featuring second-hand looks from designer brands such as Khaite, Off-White, and Simone Rocha. These runway shows come ahead of the official spring/summer shows at New York Fashion Week and London Fashion Week next month. Additionally, our resale platform offers a daily selection of your favorite fashions and accessories. The “Endless Runway” show will be accessible to shoppers based in the U.S. and the U.K. via eBay Live.

Dive Insight:

In a release, eBay announced that approximately $50 billion worth of used luxury goods will be sold worldwide in 2023. The company added that it is driving the resale of luxury goods, with younger customers in particular seeking “an easy-to-access entry point into the traditionally exclusive luxury goods market.”

The company said in a release that used and refurbished products account for 40% of eBay’s total product volume. In June, the platform’s global users searched for the word “vintage” on average more than 1,000 times per minute.

“With the launch of Pre-Loved Fashion Week, we are appearing on fashion’s biggest stage and proving that authentic designer fashion doesn’t have to be out of reach.” eBay Fashion division general manager Kirsty Kogan said in a release. .

According to a release, the New York event was curated and styled by model and social media personality Wisdom Kaye and co-hosted by author Liana Satenstein, and the show featured Totem, Brandon Maxwell, Eckhaus Latta, Works by designers such as Ralph Lauren will be on display. Shoppers can watch the show exclusively on eBay Live on September 12 at 6pm BST.

Meanwhile, London’s Endless Runway presentation was curated by eBay’s Preloved Style Director Amy Bannerman, co-hosted by model and TV presenter Leomie Anderson, and featured the likes of Christopher Kane and Molly Goddard. Works by designers will be featured.

“When I style my clothes, my goal is always to break the mold and create something completely unique. It gives us endless possibilities,” Kay said in a release. “Plus, physically owning the designer items you love but feel like you can’t afford is the most sustainable way to go.”
