In the teaser trailer for “The Face-Off,” a new digital short film produced by Complex, Eminem goes head-to-head with his alter-ego, Slim Shady.

The featurette, due for release on July 29, finds Eminem chatting with his infamous alter-ego, who recently returned for his 12th studio album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce). “I’m back ’cause I’m pinching your crotch so tight, Caitlyn Jenner’d be jealous,” Slim Shady says in the trailer. “Hey, are you allergic to not just being an asshole?” Eminem replies.

Em criticizes his cartoonish alter-ego, likening him to Cartman from South Park or Family Guy. “You can’t cancel me,” he continues. “On TikTok, every other week, Gen Z finds you on Monday and cancels me on Tuesday.”

The theme of “cancellation” is a major theme on The Death of Slim Shady, appearing across multiple tracks, and Gen Z is a big target for the rapper, who suggests the generation is “too sensitive.”

In 2021, there has been a lot of talk on social media about Gen Z trying to “cancel” the hugely successful rapper, mainly due to lyrics that many consider to be misogynistic, fatphobic, and homophobic. In one particular clip, TikTok’s @cassiebessette607 responded to the calls to cancel him.
