NEW DELHI: A Mumbai-based entrepreneur took to LinkedIn to share her disappointing hiring experience. Senain Sawant, founder and creative director of Grump, revealed that a Gen Z job seeker called her a “whore.” Sharing details of the incident, Sawant also attached screenshots of the conversation she had with the candidate on WhatsApp.
In his post, Sawant first talked about how difficult it is to hire the right talent for your company. He further mentioned that he had scheduled a video call on Google Meet with a candidate who had applied for a social media executive role. As there was not enough information on the resume, Sawant wanted to know if he needed to be trained as an intern first or if he was good enough for an executive role. The entrepreneur asked the candidate to turn on his camera once the call started.

But they pointed out some issues: “They joined the call with their camera off, said they didn’t have a computer, an iOS update meant they couldn’t make video calls, etc. I replied, ‘How do you normally work?’, and they replied, ‘I got a laptop from my previous company, but we can get one for you if you need one.'”
Since it was going to be a video interview, the entrepreneur asked candidates to join the call when they were able to turn their cameras on.
“I asked to join at a time when they could turn their video on as it was an interview and I needed to verify who I was speaking to. They said ‘sure’ and hung up. Their tone was odd from the start, I couldn’t hear them and the amount of background noise made it sound like they were in public,” Swant wrote on the networking platform.
In a subsequent WhatsApp chat, the candidate told Sawant he hoped to be hired as an executive and that he was open to jumping the ranks. “Don’t be mean. No one will want to talk to you if you speak with the arrogance you have,” the candidate texted Sawant.
Sawant was surprised, but responded, “Thank you for clarifying your level of experience and professionalism.”
Sawant continued in the post, “I don’t know what to do next. The younger generation clearly needs strong guidance. As a young entrepreneur myself, I am appalled at the brazenness this candidate has in thinking it’s okay to call a company founder or someone in hiring a bitch.”
Many people commented on the post, expressing their support for the entrepreneur.
