Erykah Badu showed up at the CFDA Fashion Awards (and her entrance was a show-stopper).
On October 28, the 53-year-old singer-songwriter became the latest recipient of the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s Fashion Icon Award, and she hit the carpet in a look worthy of an icon.
The Grammy winner wore a black and white dress with a beaded headpiece and her signature statement face jewelry.

Badu joins Zendaya, Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna and Lady Gaga to receive the prestigious award, which has recognized fashion’s most influential figures since 2010.
The honor celebrates Badu’s “unique and fearless” sense of style, including her signature love of bold hats.

“This honor is amazing and I don’t take it for granted. I always love to take pieces of what I’m drawn to and create something much grander than the sum of those parts. “From the looks I wear to the technology I develop, I’m always looking for innovative and exciting ways to be more expressive, connect with people, and get closer to nature.” Badu said in a statement.

The CFDA will also praise her bold sartorial resume, which features looks from designer brands such as Rick Owens, Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty, and Thom Browne.
“Erykah Badu and fashion are synonymous in many ways. Erykah effortlessly expresses herself and her unique perspective through the clothes she chooses to wear, and the looks she envisions are… is also very individual and true to himself,” said Brown, who is also CFDA chairman.
The 2024 CFDA Fashion Awards are hosted by Cynthia Erivo and presented by Amazon Fashion at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City.
