All fashionistas are welcome to participate. You probably want to know the name of Liliana Mijangos. First, she’s already making a “big” splash in the fashion industry as the youngest designer to have her work shown at New York and Los Angeles Fashion Weeks. And not only does she pour her heart into every ultra-chic piece (no one dresses as glamorously as Liliana, see the proof here), she also uses her talent to create beautiful Our mission is to make clothing inclusive and accessible for all fashion lovers. .
We caught up with Liliana to talk about her up-and-coming brand (hello, LC Couture!), her artistic inspirations, and her goals. A bright future.
Girls’ Life: You are the youngest designer to show at New York Fashion Week *and* Los Angeles Fashion Week. Can you tell us about your journey to reach this milestone?
Liliana Mijangos: I started modeling in New York and Los Angeles with the dream of one day showing my designs on their amazing runways. After walking through New York Fashion Week, I approached the event director and grabbed a pivotal moment. We chatted and created a connection that led to a life-changing opportunity. I showed the director some designs from my phone and they caught her interest. What followed was a whirlwind, with a full-line showcase in February 2022 that left a huge mark on my journey.
GL: What drew you to fashion design in the first place?
Liliana: I’ve always been fascinated by fashion. It all started with inspiration from my sister Cecilia. My sister has special needs and uses a wheelchair, so finding clothes that are comfortable and easy for her to wear has been really difficult. I decided to start designing and making clothes that she would be comfortable wearing. I love fashion because it’s a way to express myself. There are so many things you can create based on your imagination.

GL: Please tell us about your style. How would you describe your design?
Liliana: I try to prioritize both functionality and taste. I take inspiration from everything I see, from the vibrant colors of flowers to the delicate feathers of birds to the shapes of clouds. As soon as you see something that catches your eye, start sketching out your vision.
GL: Who influences your style?
Liliana: It doesn’t affect me in any particular way. We try to create everything from 60’s inspired pieces to more futuristic styles.

GL: What is your favorite piece that you have designed?
Liliana: My favorite look that I designed was the pink chiffon dress that I showed at LA Fashion Week 2023. It had a beaded flower on the front of the chest and a short ruffled skirt that fell at the shoulders above the knees. Puff sleeves. I made a tulle train on the inside of the skirt and attached a large ribbon to the back. The inspiration for this design was the camellia flower.
GL: Can you tell me about a moment in your career when you learned a difficult lesson? How have you grown from there?
Liliana: When I first started, I was often criticized for being a young designer. People thought that because of my age, I didn’t know anything about fashion and that I shouldn’t be a part of runway culture and would never go far. But I didn’t give up on my dream just because people told me I couldn’t achieve it. I learned to follow my passion!
GL: You’re passionate about accessibility and inclusivity in the fashion industry, partly because of your sister. Could you tell me more about that?
Liliana: I started making costumes for my sister who has special needs. I started thinking of ideas for how I could make something accessible to her, but still feel “wow.” My grandmother also helped me realize my ideas, from my drawings to the actual costumes.

GL: What advice do you have for girls who dream of working in the fashion industry?
Liliana: My advice is to be confident! Having a plan can help you stay focused and motivated. Imagine your success by surrounding yourself with positive people. Don’t give up. There may be setbacks, but know that they are just learning opportunities. Become a good learner by valuing your experiences of both success and failure. Above all, believe in yourself and keep a positive attitude.

GL: Is there anything you want GL readers to know about you and your journey? Do you have any other news to share?
Liliana: Some fun facts about me: I’m also an actor and a *huge* theme park girl. If I’m not designing or acting, you’ll probably find me at Disneyland or Universal Studios. In my free time, I enjoy crocheting, swimming, dancing, and painting. I also love spending time with my family and my new puppy, Echo.
