For the second year in a row, Green Car Journal has named the Fiat 500e the 2025 Urban Green Car of the Year. Despite such praise, the Fiat 500e has recently faced sales challenges in the United States and Europe, where some significant adjustments have been made to the model. The 500e is among the top 10 worst-selling cars in the United States, while production of the electric city car has been suspended in Europe since the summer and is expected to resume in November.

Green Car Journal’s review of the Fiat 500e highlights its appeal as a city-friendly electric vehicle (EV). According to the publication, the 500e’s compact size, stylish design and zero-emission features make it stand out in urban environments. Ron Cogan, editor and publisher of Green Car Journal, praised the vehicle, saying: touch. The fashionable Italian atmosphere is a welcome bonus. ”
However, the popularity of the Fiat 500e has not translated into strong sales recently. In the US, demand for the 500e is relatively low, making it one of the slowest-moving models on the market. Meanwhile, Stellantis suspended production in Europe over the summer as supply chain and market adjustments take place. Production is scheduled to resume in November, but with some notable changes. Stellantis is investing $110 million to include a hybrid powertrain in the 500e. This strategic move aims to offer consumers a wider range of powertrain options to suit their preferences.

Despite the sales hurdles, the Fiat 500e remains a key part of Stellantis’ electrification strategy in North America. Powered by a 42 kWh lithium-ion battery, it has an estimated combined range of 149 miles (240 kilometers) and up to 162 miles in city driving conditions. The vehicle is also known for its light weight, weighing less than 3,000 pounds, making it the lightest passenger BEV in its segment. It’s also larger and more spacious than previous versions of the iconic Cinquecento, which has sold more than 6 million units worldwide since its debut in 1957.
Aamir Ahmed, head of Fiat North America, emphasized that the car meets the needs of modern drivers. “The Fiat 500e is affordable, fun, stylish and continues Fiat’s tradition of democratizing transportation that began when the brand was founded 125 years ago.” Green Car Journal’s Urban Green Car of the Year title Its successive wins demonstrate how well the Fiat 500e fulfills its intended function as the ultimate electric city car. ”

The 2024 Fiat 500e is currently priced at $32,500, and potential renters can benefit from a $7,500 federal EV tax credit in the United States. This vehicle is loaded with standard features such as wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto™, and built-in Alexa, making it a friendly option for urban drivers. Buyers can choose between a Level 2 charger or a $600 Free2move Charge credit, aimed at easing the transition to electric driving.
Stellantis has teased further development of the Fiat 500e, which is scheduled to be unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show on November 21, 2024.
