A flight attendant who works for TUI and frequently shares about her job on TikTok has revealed the terrifying reason why you shouldn’t inflate your life jacket on a plane.

In the video, “Madame Miva” is seen donning a life jacket and explaining to passengers how to respond in an emergency, explaining that wearing a life jacket while flying could do more harm than good.

It said: “Did you know? In the event of an emergency water landing, this could save your life. Never inflate your life jacket while in an airplane.”

“Water may get into the cabin and you may not be able to move freely. An inflated life jacket will always guide you to the top. The safest thing to do is to hold your breath and swim out of the plane. Carry a life jacket with you and inflate it once you are outside the plane.”

The video garnered 1,100 likes and numerous comments, with many thanking the person for the advice. “Thanks for the info,” one commenter wrote.

Another said: “I’m studying to be an aircraft mechanic but would also like to be a flight attendant in the future. Thanks for all the info!”

This isn’t the only flying tip that’s gone viral recently. Earlier this year, another flight attendant revealed a simple way planes can prevent dreaded blood clots.

She shared a video on social networks of her exercising her legs, with text overlaid on the video saying: “Here are some tips everyone should do every hour when flying. Especially on long-haul flights, perform the alphabet technique to prevent ankle swelling and deep vein thrombosis (DVT).”

She captioned the video, adding: “To prevent blood clots during long flights, consider adopting a few simple strategies. First, remember to practice your alphabet – trace each letter with your foot to get the blood flowing.”

“Second, wear compression socks, which can help keep blood flowing and reduce your risk of deep vein thrombosis (DVT). Finally, if possible, try to get up and walk around every hour.”

Sissi said the tips would help “increase comfort” and “significantly” reduce the risk of blood clots — and fans were quick to thank her for the tips.

One person wrote: “Compression socks have helped me get rid of leg pain. Amazing!”, while another added: “This is amazing! I work in vascular ultrasound and see so many people coming in with blood clots after long flights! This is so important information that most people don’t know!”
