Earlier this offseason, the Baltimore Ravens re-signed key defensive lineman Brent Urban, but that doesn’t mean they won’t have competition.

After Saturday’s practice, nose tackle Michael Pierce said that several former Ravens assistants had tried to recruit Urban to their new teams this offseason, specifically mentioning former Ravens defensive coordinator and current Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike McDonald and former assistant head coach and defensive line coach and now Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver.

“He sent me an email [to] “That’s the decision for him,” Pierce told reporters. “Coach Wiebe is [Anthony Weaver] He named us the “fun buddies” and we are like brothers to me. [and he’s] One of my best friends in the league. [I’m] I was so excited. I was so happy that he texted me to let me know. [that] “Weave” and Coach Mike [Macdonald] They were trying to kidnap him. [I’m] I’m really glad he’s back.”

Urban, 33, began his career with the Ravens in 2015 and returned to Baltimore in 2022. The Mississauga, Ontario native has recorded 150 total tackles, 17 tackles for loss and 10 sacks in 10 seasons in the NFL. He finished with his best season to date with a career-high three sacks.

Baltimore has had some injuries on the defensive end, but the defensive line has remained largely the same, and Pierce believes that continuity up front will be a big boost as the championship race continues.

“You always get continuity, but even more so when you bring back guys who can really impact winning,” Pierce said. “We bring back ‘Beaks. [Justin Madubuike] – One of the best defensive tackles in the league [and] clearly [an NFL] A guy who would be in the top 100. [As far as] I played well myself, but obviously Brodie [DE / DT Broderick Washington] I will come here again, Travis. [Jones] Again, they’ve taken great steps. [The Ravens] Reviving the “Urb” [Brent Urban who is a] A solid 5[-technique]There aren’t many players like that in the league. [I’m] I’m glad he’s back.”
