If you saw me add a denim jacket to my collection back in the day, you would not believe it. But hear me out. I already had quite a few traditional jean jackets, but none of them suited my style. They all boasted the standard details of a button-front and a mid-length cut. But I rarely wore them because they didn’t go with the high-rise bottoms that make up the majority of my wardrobe (jeans! skirts! shorts!). That all changed when I found this Gap Cropped Denim Jacket ($41, original price $70). The shorter length matches my high-rise pieces perfectly, and I love the zipper closure for a modern twist. And these are just some of the reasons why I wear this jacket almost every day. Below, I’ll tell you everything you need to know about this jacket in case you want to add it to your summer wardrobe.

What I love about Gap’s cropped denim jacket

I’ve already worn this denim jacket many times since I bought it, which I did just last week. It complements all of my wardrobe, from my casual work-from-home wardrobe full of t-shirts to the many matching sets I pick out for dates and outings with friends. A perfect example: In this photo my husband took of me after a wine night, I’m wearing my linen-cotton ultra-cropped camisole ($50) and linen-blend maxi skirt ($70).

Another great thing about this denim jacket is that it’s comfortable and flattering. My previous jackets ranged from too soft and unsuitable for denim to too stiff and uncomfortable. This jacket is the perfect middle ground. It’s slim-fitting without feeling restrictive, and the fabric is 95% cotton, 5% recycled cotton, making it flexible without stretch (but still non-itchy and soft to the touch). I also love how versatile this jacket is and how it looks chic whether it’s partially zipped or fully unzipped.

What to Look Out for in Gap’s Cropped Denim Jacket

I’m having a hard time finding fault with this denim jacket as it is exactly what I hoped for and more. The fit is cropped, comfortable, and versatile. I ordered my usual size, a medium, and it fit perfectly. The crop length is just right, hitting the middle of the hips and right at the belly button line. This is not an extremely cropped length, nor is it a typical jacket length, so it’s ideal for those looking for something slightly shorter than most jackets. In my opinion, it looks best with a mid-rise skirt that shows a little skin, as it does with this jacket, or with high-rise bottoms to visually lengthen your legs.

Who is the Gap Cropped Denim Jacket Best For?

This cropped denim jacket is perfect for anyone looking for versatile outerwear that’s as practical as it is stylish, especially if you’re looking for a comfortable, figure-flattering cropped silhouette.
