Although Hollywood continues to pump out explicit movies and shows, Gen Zers aren’t looking for much sex on screen.

A new study conducted by the Center for Scholars and Storytellers at the University of California, Los Angeles, surveyed nearly 1,500 people between the ages of 10 and 24, and found that young people overwhelmingly want to see sex in movies and TV shows. It turns out I didn’t think so.

“63.5% of adolescents said they would prefer movies focused on friendships, big or small, while 62.4% said they didn’t need sexual content to develop the storyline,” Variety reported. “This is a significant increase from the previous year, when 51.5% of those surveyed said they wanted more content about people in platonic relationships, and 47.5% said they didn’t want shows or movies where sex was a major plot point. .”

The outlet noted that respondents between the ages of 10 and 13 were not asked about their feelings toward sexually explicit content.

“Our findings seemed to confirm the trends revealed in last year’s data: Young people are becoming increasingly obsessed with the same old, unrelatable romantics,” said Alisha J. Hines, the center’s director of research. “I’m tired of seeing these metaphors on screen.” Every deadline. “Teenagers and young adults want to see stories that more faithfully reflect all the nuanced relationships.”

So what does Gen Z want to see on screen?

The AV Club reports that young people “prefer fantasy stories (36.2 percent) over stories about the rich and famous (7.2 percent) or personal issues (24.2 percent), and actually still like going to the movies. And people who like “hopeful and uplifting content” “shatter expectations.” ”

This is not the first study of this kind. A study by Talker Research revealed similar results.

The UCLA study confirms what Movieguide® has been saying all along. In other words, audiences want moral, family-friendly content, and box office numbers prove it.

According to Movieguide®’s 2024 report on the entertainment industry, the “Top 25 Grossing Nationwide” [at the box office] Works with a strong or very strong Christian or redemptive worldview averaged $244.95 million in total. ”
