Georgia Tech held their second practice of fall camp on Thursday night, beginning the countdown to their season opener against Florida State. The Yellow Jackets are gearing up for their big game against the Seminoles later today as fall camp continues. Wide receiver Malik Rutherford spoke to the media after the second practice last night and we have all the details for you.
1. His own thoughts on the new EA Sports College Football video game…
“So for me personally, I tell myself that I love dodging a lot of tackles in games because I get tagged a lot on Instagram, but I just don’t like my speed. They rated me at 89 speed but I think I should be 92 or something. I also feel like they got Eric’s speed wrong. Eric is 92 speed but he should be 97 speed. Yeah, I think it’s a really fun game. It’s a lot better than Madden and I think it’s the best game out there right now.”
2. In this receiver group…
“Yeah, I mean, I know they have four explosive guys. At the same time, I think it’s going to be hard to stop them. I mean, whether you stop me, somebody else is going to be open. Whether you stop Eric, it’s just going to be down the line. It’s not just us on the field. We have guys who are not starters but can throw the ball well. But, obviously, having us on the side at the same time makes it easier to handle on the field. I feel like he has playmakers on the left side of the field and he has playmakers on the right side of the field.”
3. On the depth of this wide receiver group…
“So, I think we have the deepest wide receiver corps we’ve had in a while. And with that depth, I feel like our guys aren’t going to get worn down too quickly during the season. So I think we can be really healthy this season and win a lot of games.”
4. Adding a new twist to your attacks…
“Yeah. I think that allows us to do things differently and expand things. Oh, yeah, obviously, Coach Brush knows we know most of the offense really well. So I think he just tried to incorporate that because like I said about the NFL on the internet, we watch a lot of NFL teams. I’m not gonna tell everybody about the teams, but we watch a lot. They’re just as fast as we are, so that’s a good idea. But yeah, he put a little twist on a play that we already had, but he knew we could handle it and I think that’s why he did it.”
5. On new wide receivers coach Trent McKnight…
“He’s a very simple guy. I like him. When he comes in, we’re all happy to have him. With Coach McKnight, the most important thing is to make the next play. He doesn’t worry about the past. So if I drop a pass, I look forward to the next play. He gives me confidence, he talks to me. He never yells. I think that’s what makes him different from other coaches. I think a lot of coaches just yell to get their way. You don’t have to do that.”
