Do you care about Honolulu’s future? City leaders are seeking input on how to spend taxpayer dollars on future development and upgrades from Kahala to Pearl City.
The Honolulu City Council’s Planning and Economics Committee is working on a Major City Center Development Plan that will outline growth through 2040.
Committee chair Esther Ki’aina said the plan focuses on land use, housing, transportation, economic development, environmental sustainability and the area’s livability.
“The plan will inform both city administration and city council on the city’s investments, changes to zoning laws, what the budget provides for infrastructure, and what we’re doing to update city ordinances and standards,” she said.
The council is expanding its outreach to affected communities in addition to the usual public hearings, with community meetings to gather feedback starting on Tuesday.
“We felt it was important for city council members from affected neighborhoods to actually go out into the community and hear the voices of the community directly, not just at Honolulu Hale,” Ki’aina said.
