The Hyacinth Foundation will host its 39th Annual Gala & Silent Auction in memory of those who fought to end HIV/AIDS in New Jersey. This year’s Hyacinth Award recipient is actor/activist Jason A. Rodriguez, best known for his role as Lamar Extravaganza on the groundbreaking FOX hit series POSE. Rodriguez has long been a vocal advocate for LGBTQ youth on the importance of sexual health and HIV prevention. He recently partnered with Gilead as a highly visible spokesperson for the effective use of PrEP, and through his work as a teacher and ballroom leader, helps LGBTQ youth grow and lead healthy, active lives. We focus on support and education for sending. Also recognized will be respected New Jersey Senate Majority Leader M. Teresa Ruiz, recipient of the Riki Jacobs Social Justice Award for her unwavering commitment to education reform, social justice, and community development. Sal Sushino, VNA’s Prevention Resource Network Special Initiatives Manager, and Shannon Preston, VNA’s Executive Director of HIV Services, will be recognized and celebrated for their impactful advocacy and leadership with the Deloris Dockley Award. The spectacular event on November 2 will take place against the elegant backdrop of the Newark Museum of Art and feature exquisite cocktails, gourmet hors d’oeuvres provided by David Ellis Events, a spectacular silent auction, and a chic evening of socializing and entertainment .
