BHOSARI: The unfinished urban street project under Rajmata Jijau flyover in Bhosari poses a major threat to the lives of residents.
Despite multiple notices to the administration, no action was taken, resulting in the death of innocent citizens. Former standing committee chairman Ajit Gauhane demanded that the negligent contractors and officials be booked for negligence causing death.
Ajit Gauhane made the demand through a memorandum to Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh. In the memorandum, Gauhane said the civic body had planned to construct an urban street under the Rajmata Jijau flyover in Bhosari and had spent over Rs 420 crore.
The project, funded with taxpayer money, was carried out with substandard quality and work was left unfinished, leaving exposed rebar and injuring residents.
This carelessness led to a tragic accident on Friday when a civilian vehicle skidded in front of a Maruti showroom at Gauhane Vasti in Bhosari and the person fell onto an exposed iron bar, piercing his chest.
Both men were seriously injured and taken to hospital where they later died from their injuries. Similar incidents involving exposed poles have occurred in the past, injuring other citizens. The Urban Streets Project now poses a serious threat to public safety.
Gauhane has demanded that all these accidents be investigated and that the contractors and officials responsible be prosecuted for negligence causing death.
He also insisted that immediate safety measures be implemented under the Bhosari flyover to prevent further accidents, warning that protests would be organised otherwise.
