Influencer Aline Tamara Moreira de Amorim is seen in a photo posted on Instagram moments before she drowned on September 29.

Two influencers reportedly drowned after refusing to wear life jackets on a boat for fear of ruining their selfies.

Influencers Aline Tamara Moreira de Amorim, 37, and Beatriz Tavares da Silva Faria, 27, died after their bodies washed up on the beach of Itaquitanduba, Brazil, earlier this month. It was discovered that there was.

The influencers were attending a large party on a luxury yacht near Sao Vicente on Brazil’s Sao Paulo coast.

On their way back from a yacht party, Aline and Beatrice (along with five other people, including the captain) boarded a speedboat that capsized in rough seas, killing them both.

Shortly before the tragedy, Aline posted a photo on social media on September 29th of herself aboard a luxury yacht.

Police now believe the influencers drowned because they refused to wear life jackets for fear of ruining their selfies and tans, according to local media reports.

“Some people didn’t want to wear it. [the lifejackets] Because they were taking selfies,” São Vincente police chief Marcos Alexandre Alfino said in an interview with Brazilian television station Tribuna.

“[They] We kept talking, and really it was [life jacket] Prevents you from tanning. ”

Alphinaud made this claim based on testimony from an anonymous boat captain, who was not named by police, who was extensively interviewed by police regarding the fatal accident.

The speedboat that sank was also said to have been overcrowded, with seven people on board, although it had a capacity of five people. Local media reported that the ship was too heavy to embark and began to sink.

The Daily Mail reports that police are currently trying to determine whether the influencers’ deaths were just tragic accidents or whether they could have been prevented.

“All of this is being considered very calmly and we are still determining whether the fatal accident was caused by recklessness or negligence,” Alphinaud said.

Local media reported the names of the survivors of the tragedy as Vanessa Audrey da Silva, Camila Alves de Carvalho, Daniel Gonçalves Ferreira, Gabriela Santos Lima and Natan Cardoso Soares da Silva. are.

Earlier this month, PetaPixel reported on an influencer who tripped and fell to her death while filming a video.
