But she was spotted over the weekend giving her favorite wide-leg pants a subtle upgrade, using the occasion to cleverly tap into the popular denim trend — and one celeb staple.

The “Dawson’s Creek” actress was spotted running errands in New York City on Friday, July 27. While out and about, Holmes was dressed minimalist from head to toe, wearing a navy blue scoop-neck T-shirt tucked into extra-wide jeans.

Holmes accessorized her oversized bottoms with a brown leather belt around the waist, along with black leather mules, a stylish leather crossbody bag slung over her shoulder, and black cat-eye sunglasses.
The “Rare Objects” director went for an out-of-office look, going makeup-free and wearing her brunette hair in a half-up, half-down style while she spoke on the phone and bustled around town.

Holmes is no stranger to the T-shirt and jeans combo; she’s worn the timeless, simple garment many times and in different ways in her off-duty street style. A few days earlier, on July 23, Holmes had paired a black short-sleeved top with white khaki trousers from Banana Republic. She accessorized the anti-fashion summer outfit with her usual accessories: leather Mansur Gabriel ballet flats and a maxi Madewell tote bag.

She’s also put this foolproof formula to the test by transforming it into trustworthy travel wardrobe: In June, Holmes was photographed in Soho wearing a relaxed yellow T-shirt paired with white wide-leg jeans. She styled the look with another recurring accessory: an XXL bag (in this case, a canvas weekender bag) and her favorite pair of black Mansur Gavriel ballet flats.
Holmes’ wide-leg jeans arrived during a time when everything baggy and oversized was king in the denim department. Over the past few years, the extra-wide, slouchy style has replaced the now-controversial skinny jean on and off the runway, and has consistently reigned as one of denim’s biggest trends. Not only have fashion’s most popular brands, from Ganni to Chloe, embraced the supersized pants, but stars like Jennifer Lopez are also sticking with the extra-roomy leg look, as spotted in a flurry of New York street style looks.
Katie Holmes prides herself on wearing the same outfits over and over, but even she knows the power of effortlessly chic an outfit that’s foolproof. In this case, she opts for a J.Lo-esque denim look with a twist on the wide-leg pant silhouette.
Holmes says she usually doesn’t make any major changes to her summer wardrobe. “I don’t like to have a lot of stuff,” she told Marie Claire in May. “I just like to have regular clothes that I like.”
