Thanks to Charli XCX’s new album, “Brat,” “Brat girl summer” is all the rage. Brat used to be a bad word, but now it’s a good word. Now celebrities are getting in on the trend, as are your local beauty artists. Here’s everything you need to know about the trend.
Charlie XCX: “You can find me.”
Barbie pink was last year’s trend. 2024 is all about lime green and wildness.
Charlie XCX: “So stylish with the camera flashes on.”
Thanks to Charli XCX’s “brat” album, slime is all the rage! So what exactly is “brat summer”?
Charli XCX: “You can wear something really vulgar like a pack of cigarettes, a Bic Camera lighter and a strappy white top with no bra. That’s all you need.”
Well, Charlie, I think you need a little bit more than that.
Jazmine Ning: “Brat Summer is all about having fun. Don’t hold back. Party and do what you want. Lime green is all about messiness.”
Local beauty artist Jazmine Ning is embracing the trend: First off, you can’t go wrong with messy hair.
Jazmin Ning: “If you don’t have a crimper at home, you can crimp your hair with your hands. Wash your hair, crimp it, crunch it. To do that, you just need to give your hair some texture. With bangs, you can style them however you want. Give it a messy vibe. It doesn’t have to be perfect. You just want some volume.”
Raise your eyebrows with a smoky eye.
Jazmine Ning: “I don’t put green in my hair. I keep green on my face.” [laughs]”I add a touch of green to my smudged smokey eye. Brat is not about a perfect, sharp look, it’s about the smokiness. So I create a sexy lip with a dark lip liner and gloss and I’m good to go.”
Maidell Alvarez: “It makes you want to party all night. It makes you bold. It makes you sassy. And of course it makes you green.”
Charlie XCX: “I think everything that’s been passed down has made the apple rotten to the core.”
Sassy isn’t the only thing that’s hot this summer: celebs are copying the sassy singer’s viral TikTok dance to the album’s single, “Apple.”
Charlie XCX: “I split an apple…”
