NYFW

New York Fashion Week (NYFW) in September 2024 will be held from September 6th to September 13th, and will be a global stage where cutting-edge fashion gathers. A fusion of high fashion, street style, and avant-garde design, the week will take place at several key locations in New York City, including Spring Studios, The Shed at Hudson Yards, and various upscale spots around the city. It was done. As always, NYFW September 2024 brought together the world’s top designers, celebrities, influencers, and fashion enthusiasts eagerly awaiting the debut of their Spring/Summer 2025 collections.

Designers and Collections: Spring/Summer 2025 Looks

The September 2024 runway show attracted attention from a wide range of designers, from established fashion houses to rising stars making their NYFW debut.

Marc Jacobs – One of the most anticipated shows of NYFW, Marc Jacobs presented a collection filled with unexpected shapes, bright colors, and oversized silhouettes. Known for its avant-garde approach, Jacobs’ Spring/Summer 2025 collection combines ’90s nostalgia with futuristic design elements. Brandon Maxwell – Focused on casual luxury, Maxwell’s collection emphasized effortless chic with flowing dresses, structured jackets, and versatile separates. Michael Kors – A NYFW staple, Michael Kors’ collection combines jet-set glamor with everyday wear. Featuring flowing maxi dresses, tailored suits, and bold prints, his designs were perfect for both vacation travel and sophisticated everyday life. Christian Siriano – As always, Siriano wowed with a collection of dramatic gowns and tailored pieces that blended Hollywood glamor and modern artistry. His commitment to size inclusivity was also a central theme.

Newcomers at NYFW 2024

Campillo — Menswear brand founded in 2017 by designer Patricio Campillo. Inspiration comes from Charro culture, Mexican modernist architecture, and “pre-Spanish minimalism.” Campillo is rooted in Mexican tradition and focuses on sustainable practices.

Off White – This is the brand’s NYFW debut despite already being a well-established brand since it was founded by the late Virgil Abloh in 2023. They have previously shown at Paris Fashion Week. Currently run by IB Camara, Off-White is based in Milan and designs men’s and women’s clothing, accessories, homewares and children’s clothing.

Sebastien Ami – Inspired by vintage aesthetics and the evolving beauty of beloved objects. ebastien Ami is led by designer Sebastien Amisial and co-directed with partner Marianne Amisial. The brand was founded in 2020 and has already been worn by celebrities such as Bad Bunny, Jack Harlow, and Justin Bieber.

The Money Behind NYFW

NYFW is not only a hub of fashion and creativity, but also an economic powerhouse for the city. According to various reports, the week-long event each season brings in more than $900 million to New York’s economy, with significant spending on hotels, food and beverage, and retail.

For designers, the cost of attending NYFW can be significant. Large shows in prime locations can cost designers anywhere from $200,000 to more than $1 million, depending on the size, location, and production value of the event. Costs include model fees, lighting, sound production, set design, and venue usage fees. But for high-profile designers, this investment is essential to maintaining their visibility in the competitive fashion market.

NYFW also creates significant employment, benefiting more than 180,000 professionals.

People employed at the event, such as event planners, caterers, makeup artists, and security personnel.

NYFW models can command different salaries depending on their experience and position in the industry. Top models like Gigi Hadid and Adut Akech can reportedly earn around $20,000 per show, while newcomers reportedly earn in the low $1,000s. However, the exposure of new models will boost their career.

Beyond the runway shows, NYFW also features a slew of events, from brand-sponsored parties and influencer-led dinners to exclusive afterparties. These events bring together fashion insiders, celebrities and the press, providing networking and media coverage opportunities. Pop-up stores, fashion installations, and collaborations with tech and beauty brands are part of the NYFW landscape, increasing the economic and cultural impact of the week.

The event will also generate an influx of tourists into the city, boosting the tourism, retail and hospitality industries.

History of New York Fashion Week

New York Fashion Week’s origins date back to 1943, when fashion publicist Eleanor Lambert founded Press Week in an effort to shift attention away from Paris and focus on American fashion during World War II. . This initiative was a turning point for American designers, providing a platform to showcase their work to media and buyers without relying on European fashion capital.

In the decades that followed, New York’s status as a fashion capital grew exponentially. By the 1990s, under the guidance of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), NYFW had established itself as one of the “Big Four” fashion weeks, along with Paris, Milan, and London. During this era, iconic designers like Ralph Lauren, Donna Karan, and Calvin Klein helped put American fashion on the world map.

NYFW continued to evolve with the rise of digital media. In the 2010s, live streaming of runway shows became the norm, making the event accessible to millions of fashion lovers around the world.
