Community response
Parents and community members were outraged to learn that students were being steered to these resources, and the revelation raised major concerns about parents not being involved in such important, life-changing decisions for minors.
“I was shocked to learn that my child could be referred to such a service without my knowledge,” one concerned parent said. “This goes against everything we believe about parental rights and the importance of involving families in big health decisions.”
School District Actions
Newport Mesa High School quickly removed links to LGBTQ center resources from its website in response to the uproar. “We are not affiliated with any resource providers and the direct links have nothing to do with gender transition counseling/therapy,” said Annette Franco, a spokesperson for the school district. “We support our students and know that they are more successful when they involve their parents and families in decisions that impact their lives.”
The school also began reviewing all external resources linked to the site to ensure they comply with district policies and have parental consent.
Statement from CFC
Greg Burt, vice president of the California Family Council, commented on the issue: “Parents have a fundamental right to be involved in any decisions regarding their children’s health, especially decisions involving irreversible medical procedures. The fact that school districts are directing minors to websites for these services without parental consent is deeply troubling. While we are pleased that the district has taken steps to remedy the situation, this underscores the need for vigilance and transparency in all educational settings.”
Conclusion
The Newport Mesa High School incident highlights the ongoing assault on parental rights by state education agencies and their push for sterilization drugs and amputation against gender-confused young people. While the school has dropped the referrals, the situation highlights the important role parents and Christian leaders play in protecting children from gender ideology.
