OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced Tuesday that it will commit $150.9 million to new housing investments in tribal communities.

In Oklahoma, the Iowa Tribe, the Kickapoo Tribe, the Wichita Housing Authority and the Wyandot Tribe will share $112,631,464 under the program announcement.

“The Biden-Harris Administration is proud to work with our tribal partners to meet the housing needs that exist on Indian reservations,” said Acting HUD Secretary Adrienne Todman. “These funds will help build and repair housing that is desperately needed right now.”

The funds will be used for a variety of purposes, including new construction, renovations and infrastructure improvements to support affordable housing on Indian reservations and similar areas.

The Indian Housing Block Grant (IHBG) competitive program is designed to inject critical financial resources into disadvantaged tribal families and is expected to bring relief to tribal communities.

“The Biden-Harris Administration is committed to working with our tribal nation partners to advance the supply of affordable housing to meet housing needs in Indian Country,” said HUD Southwest Regional Administrator Candace Valenzuela. “This significant HUD funding will help hardworking tribal communities preserve and create many decent, affordable housing opportunities for those who need them most.”
