The naked shoe trend just gained a coveted Gen Z endorsement from none other than Olivia Rodrigo and was even featured on national television.
This fall, celebrities are showing off in all kinds of naked shoes, from Jennifer Lopez’s Birkin and naked pumps to Kim Kardashian’s sky-high PVC pleathers. Olivia Rodrigo participated in a mass optical illusion when she stopped by The Late Show with Jimmy Fallon on Oct. 29. Styling duo Chloe and Shenelle Delgadillo dressed Rodrigo in Amina Muaddi wedges made from crystal clear material. The nearly invisible heels and straps made it look like the “Déjà Vu” singer was walking on pointe or floating in mid-air.

Rodrigo’s heels balanced out a straight-from-the-runway minidress by Ludovic de Saint-Sernin, which debuted on the Spring 2025 runway. The fire engine red piece was another visual mind trick in itself. It consisted of a long studded belt that wrapped around Rodrigo’s body to create a dress, with a small section at the hem hanging low to reveal the dress. slices of skin. It’s punk rock, it’s Guts World Tour.
Featuring layered belt effects and studded details, Saint-Sernin’s unique dresses have become a fixture in the celebrity world this year, being picked off the racks by celebrities who style them more for the concert stage than the red carpet. Anya Taylor-Joy, Laura Harrier and Dua Lipa have all used the designer in their recent films.

There’s a lot of overlap between Olivia Rodrigo’s rebellious lyrics and Saint-Sernin’s boundary-pushing silhouettes. Little did we expect to see the same look with bare feet. For spring 2025, barefoot-effect shoes dominated the runways from Tibi to Brandon Maxwell, but they’re yet to be found in Rodrigo’s wardrobe. She usually puts a punk rock twist on the Mary Jane trend or is often seen on stage wearing Dr. Martens.
Then again, walking up to a talk show desk looking barefoot is a pretty metal thing to do. Perhaps there’s more to this style than just the chance to show off a fresh pedicure.
