One of Chicago’s oldest LGBTQ+ bars, The Baton opened in 1969. Although it struggled at first, it has since become a celebrity hotspot.
The National AIDS Memorial Grove in San Francisco is the nation’s only memorial to those affected by AIDS. Located in the city’s Golden Gate Park, it is a space for healing, hope, and remembrance of those who have died from illness.
At a time when the AIDS crisis has grown, this monument commemorates those who fought, fought, or died from HIV, the disease that causes AIDS.
35th Annual Fresno Reel Pride Celebrates LGBTQ+ Movies – ABC30 Fresno
For its 35th year, the Fresno Reel Pride is returning to the silver screen.
The festival celebrates LGBTQ+ films in the Tower District.
“If you come to Reel Pride, you can basically see a lot of what we are known for. It’s great feature films that you can’t see in regular theaters,” says Kathleen Arambula-Reina .
Mr. Arambula-Reina serves as the festival’s board chairman. This year’s event will feature 20 films, including shorts, features, and local artists and filmmakers.

In Houston, the Q Patrol previously took to the city’s streets to raise awareness about crimes against LGBTQ+ people and ensure residents were safe from violence. Born out of a vicious attack in the 1990s, “Q-Patrol” has been so successful that it has outgrown the need for patrols. That was until the rise in anti-LGBTQ+ sentiment in recent years suggested it needed to be revived.
For over 30 years, The Wall Las Memorias has served the Latino and LGBTQ+ communities.
Wall Las Memorias is a memorial in Lincoln Park that honors lives lost to AIDS. It was built more than 25 years ago and was the first monument of its kind in the country.
But it’s more than just a monument. The wall was designed to change the stigma of AIDS, especially in the Latinx community.
“This memorial is a place where we walk a journey of remembering the impact AIDS has had on our communities. Karangi has ties to the lesbian community, but has said in the past that she does not want to adopt the “accepted lesbian style”. Carangi became addicted to heroin and her career came to an abrupt end. In 1986, she died from AIDS-related complications at the age of 26, making her one of the most notable women to die from AIDS at the time.
