TNA Wrestling held their Slammiversary event on pay-per-view, filling Montreal’s Verdun Auditorium with 4,000 fans to witness history being made. PCO, who has been wrestling since 1987, had the biggest night of his career in front of his hometown fans.
The event featured several title matches, with each champion determined to bring home the gold from Ontario. Local hero PCO was the favorite to win the TNA Digital Media Championship match. AJ Francis admitted at the Slammiversary press conference that he only had three supporters in the venue: Rich Swann, who was at ringside, and the two women he brought to the show.
Before the match started, Francis and friends ambushed PCO. Francis demanded to be declared the winner, but was interrupted by a dramatic entrance from PCO. With smoke and theatrics, PCO was lowered from the ceiling and placed in a coffin, before being reanimated by Father James Mitchell with jumper cables. As he made his way to the ring, the crowd erupted in a Frankenstein-esque chant of “PCO.”
The Montreal Street Fight was brutal and the fans were all in. The highlight was when PCO attacked Francis with a PCOsault off the top rope onto the floor. Rich Swann distracted PCO so Francis and Swann could set up two tables. The fans were very vocal in their opposition to everything Francis did, and PCO attacked him with trash cans and chairs.
Despite sustaining significant damage, PCO continued to kick out. Francis went through a table, but was assisted by Bishop, who took down PCO at ringside. Sami Callihan tried to help PCO, but Swann jumped on him. Rhyno then appeared to take down Swann with a Gore. Back in the ring, PCO went for another PCO Salto, but Francis kicked out. Francis hit a Tombstone Piledriver, but PCO kicked out again. PCO then reversed a chokeslam and hit his own chokeslam into a pile of chairs. After another PCO Salto, he won the TNA Digital Media Championship.
Finally, Steph Delander came out after the match, got down on one knee and proposed marriage to PCO, who accepted. It looks like another marriage is on the way for TNA Wrestling.
PCO has had a long career entertaining fans as part of WWE’s Quebecers and emerging as a monster in the ring, so it will be interesting to see if he can top this big moment at Slammiversary.
