Normally I’m really into funky trends and trying out new styles, but there’s something about this fall that makes me want to revisit some long-time favorites.
What are my two favorite things? Soft quilted jackets and good old Levi’s.

Maybe it’s because I just moved across the country and there isn’t a lot of creative space in my life with all this change. Or maybe it’s because I’m older and realized that not all trends are worth trying (snort). -This season’s clothes are all about making me look as good as I feel. No experimentation required.

Skip fall’s biggest trend: wear a quilted jacket instead
I love change and switching things up, so switching up trends feels like an exciting way to keep my closet fresh. So while you might think I’m about to add this season’s biggest trend, a barn jacket, to my closet, I’m, um, actually skipping it all together.
Instead, when I was looking to refresh my fall wardrobe, I wanted a coat that was soft and comfortable, rather than stiff and rough, and shaped in a way that lengthened my frame rather than cutting it off.

Macy’s has made me a great find with a quilted jacket that fits perfectly to my preferred silhouette but is super soft and huggable (probably my favorite type of jacket ever) . What’s more, the quilted look is still very on-trend, if that matters to you.

This jacket also comes with a lot of extra features. Multiple pockets, a high collar to keep you warm, and my favorite part, little bungee cords throughout to tighten any part of the coat. Not only are they very cute, but they are also very useful for preventing cold air.
The sizing is very loose, so there’s no need to size up for winter layering, and plus sizes are also available.

The Macy’s exclusive option “And Now This” from the same brand as my jacket all made me drool a little on my keyboard. This catalog is 100% worth reading.
Need a pair of jeans? Go for the classic straight leg look
When we talk about trends, we all know that denim is on a whole new level. Many of the new silhouettes are baggy and funky in fabric, and I’m always on the lookout for new takes on denim, but there are a few jeans that will remain at the front of my closet no matter what.
In my opinion, straight leg jeans are the most classic silhouette you can own. It’s never too tight or too loose, and never looks completely “unknowable.” Straight legs are chic, dressy, and can be paired with more shoes than other styles.

Levi’s Ribcage has long been one of my favorite jeans, but I can’t always find the inseam I need. Especially Levi’s, when purchased from other retailers, the most common inseam is 28 inches (in fact, the last ribcage I bought was 28 inches because that was the only one I could find). So when I saw these 32-inch inseam pants on Macy’s website, I almost fell off my chair.
One of the best things about straight legs is that you can easily tighten the collar if 32 inches is a little too long or if you’re wearing shoes that need a little more leg room. As a tall person, being able to sit without my jeans riding up awkwardly is such a luxury.

Levi’s can be a little tricky for my body shape so I ordered two different sizes, but my actual size for this pair fit like a glove. Macy’s also carries three other washes, including this black pair that I own. All are chic, clean washes that can be worn anywhere from a casual office day to a trip to the pumpkin patch. Really, you can’t go wrong.
