Last night, Sabrina Elba attended the 2024 CFDA Awards in New York, honoring fashion’s greatest designers this year. Her knit halter dress was designed by Rachel Scott of Diotima, the CFDA’s only Black nominee and American Women’s Wear Designer of the Year, and she accessorized her gold jewelry with timeless fall beauty. It complemented me.
“The glamor of awards season generally tends to fall into the cooler months, so you can see a lot of beautiful fall colors showing up on the carpet,” Elba tells Essence of Maple’s monochromatic tones. . “It’s also the season of change, and people tend to change their hair or do something fresh to enhance their appeal.”
Paired with a brown highlight cut, the S’ABLE Labs founder’s skin preparation began 24 hours before the event. “I always use the Kasil Exfoliating Mask the day before,” Elba says of A-beauty products that give her moonlit skin. “This exfoliates really well and makes you look really bright and glowing the next day.”
She then uses Rooibos Micellar Water as the base for the rest of her skincare routine. Preservative Black Seed Toner, anti-pigmentation Baobab Moisturizer, and non-toxic Botox Okra Face Serum follow the makeup prep. To complement her skin-first routine, makeup artist Vanessa Eckels used Hourglass’ Veil Hydrating Skin Tint, then touched up with Vanish Airbrush Concealer.
Eckels lightly set her skin with tan-hued Vanish Airbrush Pressed Powder from the Volume II Ambient Lighting Palette and soft, shimmering gold bronzer and blush. This tone pairs well with a matte brown cat eye and a neutral rose lip for a look that’s perfect for fall. The final result? A mix of pale yellow, coffee brown, and soft taupe eyeshadow.
To complete the look, she used the smaller end of the Veil Powder Brush in a fool-proof technique. “I pushed the brush into the center of my face and rolled it around to lock in the makeup and create a super smooth finish, which is a must for special events,” says Eckels.
