Stephen Curry is putting black designers on the map.
The four-time NBA champion has formed a new partnership with e-commerce site Rakuten to support Black designers from the Black in Fashion Council during the 2024 NBA season, PEOPLE reports. Curry will host conversations with these designers and wear pieces from each brand during the tunnel walk on game days.
In the NBA season opener on Tuesday (Oct. 24), Curry’s Golden State Warriors lost 108-104 to the Phoenix Suns, wearing the first look from the Pierre Brun-curated collaboration, which also includes brands from Advisory, De Pierro, Head of State and Savant Studios.
“This is a great way to create representation in an area where it’s needed,” Curry said of the collaboration. “While I’m not a designer or a fashion mogul, I know there are creative ways to shine a light on incredible talent. I can’t wait for the world to see these designers in a new setting.”
“This was my first time meeting most of the designers. I heard their stories of how they got into the industry and what inspires them and their brands. I met Paul Richards, Keith Heron and de Pierre in person and saw their excitement about what it meant to work on this project together.”
Fans can purchase Curry’s game-day outfits on Rakuten.com, and each month new outfits from designers worn by Curry will be added to the site.
