With 2025 coming to an end and Spring/Summer 2026 fashion month over, accessorizing to the max is all the rage, and wearing two belts is better than one. We’ve collectively embraced the concept of accessories just for the sake of accessories, and the Spring/Summer 2026 runways loved what fashion insiders call “useless belts” — belts that serve no functional purpose, such as holding trousers together. On some runways, people styled their looks with two belts just because they could. So if you need a sign to start layering belts, consider this.

Fashion Month’s runway and street style looks made a strong case for layering belts this season, nodding to an era of playing with accessories: wearing more than what’s “supposed” or using things in ways they weren’t intended. Perhaps this is how trends are formed.
As one of the world’s most popular brands, Miu Miu is often at the helm of fashion trends, and this case is no exception. On Miuccia Prada’s Fall/Winter 2022-2023 runway, double stacked belts were paired with micro-mini skirts, shorts, midi skirts and baggy leather trousers, leading the trend, as Mrs. Prada often does. Everyone else followed suit this season.

On Rachel Comey’s Spring/Summer 2026 runway, two belts in different shades of brown were paired with pants. One went through the belt loop and the other clipped underneath. On the Michael Kors runway, two coordinating black belts cinched the waist of a black one-shoulder dress, leaving the ends hanging loose. At Tom Ford, two skinny belts in cream and black are layered over a suede trench coat, and at Isabel Marant, a grommet belt and a skinny belt are combined over a jumpsuit.

On the street style front, one showgoer insisted on stacking belts in a criss-cross pattern, while another adorned her black dress with not one, not two, but three black belts, one of which was turned completely around to hide the buckle.
Maximalism reigns today and more is better, so why wear one belt when you can wear two, three or four? At least it’s worth a try. I think it’s about time to start stocking up on belts.
