The interestingly named Urban Myth Dissolution Center immediately grabs your attention with its style of animation and use of color and typography. Because not all developers do this. That, and given the theme of occult investigation, I’m immediately curious to see what this production will bring to the table when modern fantasy heavyweights like Persona rule the world.

In Urban Legend Dissolution Center, you play as rookie investigator Azami Fukurai investigating cases of supernatural influence across several episodic mysteries focused on urban legends (such as Slender Man) roaming the internet. . Azami is responsible for detective work such as gathering evidence and trawling social media posts in order to unravel and solve the mysteries of the myths in question. What are Azami’s work skills? Her glasses allow her to “see other people’s intentions and residual thoughts.”
For many people, including myself, the attraction is all about psychedelic pixel art. The choppy animation and limited, very carefully chosen color palette suggest that somewhere on the development team there is artistic skill beyond what is usually seen in video games.
Urban Myth Dissolution center was created by Hakaba-Bunko, a Japan-based game team that won a development award at the 2021 Google Play Indie Game Festival. They specialize in adventure games and innovative forms of pixel art.
