Fashion in 2023 has a lot to offer. This year will see prosperity, but also mindful releases, fashion as art again, and a different kind of craftsmanship (among more exciting fashion dramas). So far, our wishes have been granted. The first week of the new year has been all about lawsuits, along with tailored suits and new collections with substance. With fashion weeks just around the corner, we can only hope this continues.
The collaborations that were teased last year continue to be teased and should be worth the wait, plus collaborations we didn’t know we needed are set to be announced and released soon and we’ll report on them soon.
For now, let’s take a look at the good, the bad, and the confusing things in fashion this week.
Christopher John Rogers presents Pre-Fall Collection 011
Titled “It’s My Party, Cry If You Want To,” the collection saw the womenswear designer offer something different from his usual colorful collections. This one was full of playful splashes of color, but without the bright primary colors he is known for. With this collection, the designer demonstrated that he is in full control of his creativity and business. What sells is what he wants to sell. With avant-garde shapes and a playful spirit, each look is truly extraordinary.
Thom Browne vs. Adidas
Adidas has sued American designer Thom Browne for using his striped motif in his designs. The joke is that Adidas had given permission for the use of the four stripes more than a decade ago. Browne’s brand has featured in the brand’s sportswear range, with his designs worn by the face of FC Barcelona alongside Lionel Messi, but since Messi has long been associated with Adidas, Adidas seems to have put up a fight. So far, Browne’s lawyers are not backing down and it is argued that it is too late for Adidas to change its mind.

A-Cold-Wall presents SS23 collection
Designer Samuel Ross has unveiled his pre-spring collection, titled “Hypergenic Series.” The collection is based on four stories: Considered, Eclipse, Uniform and Conditioning. Each one is a distortion and experimentation of the brand’s original motifs. The collection includes knitwear, asymmetrical vests with 3D pockets, slides and an M65 military jacket.

Dior x Denim Tears
Designer Tremaine Emory does not disappoint with these mules. Having worked on a capsule collection with Dior in 2022, Emory has been turning heads as we wait for the glory of the full collection. These mules look a bit like Birkenstock slides, so they’re guaranteed to be comfortable. They feature motifs from both brands, blending perfectly with Dior’s all-over print and denim-tiered peace sign buckle. The full collection is sure to have fashion insiders writing commentary about it.
