Fashionistas in one Toronto neighbourhood will have one less option for trendy clothes as a local Urban Outfitters store has closed for good.
For nearly a decade, Urban Outfitters at Yonge and Eglinton streets has been a destination for local shoppers looking for the latest internet trends and trendy trinkets, from records to reissues of nostalgic gadgets like Tamagotchis.
By Saturday, July 20, the Philadelphia-based fast fashion retailer had stores in three locations in the city, at Queen West, Yonge & Eigg and Yonge & Dundas, as well as Square One in Mississauga.
However, Toronto Urban’s store count has fallen by one following reports that stores in London, Ontario and Williamsburg, New York will be closing, while the brand’s Yonge and Eglinton stores have officially closed for good.
The store, which has a prime street location in Yonge-Eglinton Centre, posted a notice of its closure on July 18th, confirming that Saturday, July 20th will be its last day of business.
While the store has not offered any explanation for the closure, and the brand has not officially announced that it will be reducing its inventory, the store has sent out heartfelt messages in its posts.
“It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our Yonge & Eglinton store,” the caption read. “We will truly miss you, Midtown!”
Urban Outfitters products are also available at other Toronto locations: 481 Queen West and 235 Yonge.
