What’s your plan? Root asks Gen Z protesters

President William Ruto has called on youth protesters, popularly known as Gen Z, to signal their plans to demand change in government through street protests.

Speaking at Taita Taveta, the President said protests and anarchy would not solve Kenya’s problems.

“They should give us a chance to rebuild the country. They have no alternative and all they want is chaos and anarchy. I told them if they have an alternative then come out and tell Kenyans what their alternative is and don’t let there be chaos and anarchy. If they have a plan then let them tell us,” Ruto said.

The President listed various projects being undertaken by his government to create jobs for the youth.

“We have housing plans, digital jobs, labour export, industrialisation, what are their plans? They say they are planning protests, but can protests be considered jobs?” he asked.

Governor Ruto has on several occasions questioned the aftermath of the Gen Z demonstrations as protesters vow to continue demanding accountability and good governance.

The President said he would not allow a section of Kenyans to lead the country in the wrong direction.

“Some people think we will continue protesting until Kenya stops but I want to tell them we will not allow our country to be used for gambling. We will not allow our people to take over our country and demonstrate killing people, destroying property and burning government buildings for their own selfish gains,” he said.

Ruto also said he would not allow a few people to destroy Kenya’s democracy and the entire country.

He added that Kenya is a peace-loving country that believes in the rule of law.

“We will never allow a few people to create mayhem, anarchy, destroy property, burn down government buildings and create trouble in the country,” Ruto said.

Ruto called on Kenyans to come together and defend the country’s democracy.

He said Kenya is a democracy where Kenyans choose their leaders. He was speaking at Bangare Tana River on Monday during a tour of coastal communities.
