This action-oriented group is made up of faculty, staff, students, and at least one individual from the broader community, and works in partnership with the LGBTQ+ Center to work on projects, policy changes, legal advocacy, and other issues that will positively impact the community.
The WVU LGBTQ+ Committee meets monthly. Committee members also meet with university leadership to make recommendations related to issues for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and gender diverse people at WVU.
The commissioner is charged with identifying barriers that impede the full inclusion and advancement of under-represented or underserved populations, including LGBTQ+ and gender diverse people, and providing innovative, evidence-based recommendations that support the creation of inclusive and welcoming campuses and communities.
More specific goals are:
Create a welcoming environment that supports both inclusion and diversity;
Conduct information gathering and research on the environment and issues that affect the LGBTQ campus community.
Make recommendations regarding policies, procedures, and practices that impact the LGBTQ campus community with the goal of improving access and opportunity.
Ensure that the University appropriately addresses issues of equity, safety, and well-being for LGBTQ faculty, staff, students, and guests;
Establish and maintain strong collaborative relationships with organizations and entities that support WVU’s purpose, mission and vision.
Faculty and staff appointments are for one-year terms and may be reappointed. Undergraduate and graduate student appointments are for one-year terms and may not be reappointed.
