Simon Porte Jacquemus, the 34-year-old fashion designer and founder of his eponymous luxury label, Jacquemus, has captured the hearts of fashion fans around the world, from his incredible creative mind to the reveals of his personal life that continue to fascinate us. We’ve put together a list of five things you need to know to get to know this incredible designer better, based on not only his work in the fashion world but also the beautifully put together life behind his brand.
He was the driving force behind the microbag trend.
Jacquemus
It would be strange (and rude) to write an article about Jacquemus without mentioning his iconic microbags! One of the brand’s most iconic pieces is the “Le Chiquito” bag, a super mini handbag (the name literally translates to “the little one”) that became so popular it became a fashion sensation. Despite its small size, the bag has become a must-have item among celebrities and influencers.
His work is a tribute to his late mother’s legacy.
Jacquemus launched his brand in honour of his mother, who passed away when he was 19. He has paid tribute to his mother in many of his collections, especially his Resort 2016 collection. Speaking about his mother in an interview with AnOther Magazine, the designer said, “When I was 19, I was studying at fashion school in Paris and I was lost. I didn’t know what I was doing. Then a month later, my mother passed away. At the funeral, I told my grandmother that I was going back to Paris. I knew exactly what I wanted to do. My brand was named after my mother’s maiden name, Jacquemus, and was designed with her childhood in mind. My mother died at 42 for no reason. I realized that everything could end tomorrow. I told myself, ‘I have to live my life.'” It’s heartwarming to see the genius designer weave his loved ones into his work.
He had the wedding of the century
Jacquemus and his partner Marco Maestri took the internet by storm with their stars-and-stripes-decorated wedding reception. Not only did the nuptials take place in the south of France, but the couple also catered for their guests’ outfits. They gave both the men and women attending the wedding white dresses to dance in. Attendees included stars like Dua Lipa, who posted about the couple’s big day, “Simon + Marco. Summer of Love. Celebrating the love of these two special people in my life. The most beautiful day, ceremony and of course the most fun party (they know how) ~ Grateful to experience this moment of pure happiness with you guys – Je t’aime.”
She’ll be showing off a backless look with Bad Bunny at the 2023 Met Gala

There are many reasons why the Jacquemus brand is iconic, but this just happens to rank at the top: The designer dressed himself and Puerto Rican pop star Bad Bunny in ultra-sexy custom backless suits at the 2023 Met Gala. Not only did it make waves, but Jacquemus and Bad Bunny landed on many publications’ best-dressed lists throughout the event, which, as we all know, is no easy feat.
He is not afraid to fight back against any hatred or homophobia.
Jacquemus has never been silent about his advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights and visibility. The designer has been out and proud since the beginning of his career, but there are always haters lurking in the shadows. Jacquemus famously fought back in the most epic way online to a homophobic comment left on his brand page in 2022. Not only did he fight back, but it was spicy. The designer is not someone to mess with and we love watching him chastise homophobes.
His fashion legacy continues at TWINS.
Jacquemus and Maestri announced that they are expecting twins in April 2024. The couple updated us with the announcement in an Instagram post. “MIA et SUN,” Jacquemus captioned the photo. “Welcome to Earth, our darlings. We love you so much. Our dreams come true because of you. Papa Marco and Papa Simon.” We have no doubt the babies will be wearing custom Jacquemus soon!
