Meta Platforms CEO Mark Zuckerberg is seeking fashion advice from the public: The tech mogul recently posted images of himself in different AI-generated outfits and asked his followers to vote for their favorite looks.
What happened: Zuckerberg, known for his casual dressing, is now experimenting with his style. Images created with Meta AI show Zuckerberg in a variety of outfits, including one with an oversized gold chain, one resembling a member of NSYNC, one by a streetwear designer, and one as a “video game character” with a blue cap and vest.
The Meta CEO posted the photos on Threads, a social media platform rival to Elon Musk’s.
The costume experiment coincided with the release of Meta’s latest AI model, Llama 3.1, which allows users to create AI-generated images based on their own selfies. The most popular image online was one of Zuckerberg wearing a large gold chain, garnering 33% of the votes.

Aside from his fashion choices, Zuckerberg may also be branching out into the streetwear business. According to The Wall Street Journal, Mehta has acquired a roughly 5% stake in Ray-Ban’s parent company, Essilor Luxottica, which recently announced the acquisition of Supreme, a popular streetwear brand among Gen Z.
Why it matters: Zuckerberg’s latest fashion experiment falls in line with Meta’s broader AI ambitions. The company’s latest AI model, Llama 3.1, is part of Meta’s ambitious AI plans to compete with other tech giants in the AI space, including Alphabet Inc., GOOG GOOGL, Google and Musk’s xAI.
Meta’s AI technology has also been the subject of a controversy with Apple Inc. AAPL, with Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth making cheeky remarks about Apple’s stance on privacy after the company refused to integrate Llama into its suite of AI features.
Meta’s AI ambitions are part of the company’s broader strategy to dominate the mixed reality space, as the company opens up its Quest operating system to third-party hardware makers to build a new ecosystem of mixed reality devices.
