Connecting Cultures Through Fashion: Spotlight on Ayimach_Lodge’s Angela DeMontigny, Rachelle Whitewind, Jason Baerg, and More

SWAIA Native Fashion Week announces stellar lineup for 2024 event

SANTA FE, NM (SW) – Hailed as the first U.S.-produced Indigenous Fashion Week, SWAIA Native Fashion Week (SNFW) has announced the line-up of designers for this year’s highly anticipated event, scheduled to kick off in Santa Fe on May 2, 2024. Headlining the event are Angela DeMontigny, Rachel Whitewing and Jason Berg of Ayimach_Lodge, as well as Carrie Wood and Demin Cleland of the label “chichi.”

This groundbreaking event will showcase the diverse talent and cultural richness of Indigenous fashion designers from across North America, including Pamela Baker of TOC Legends, Peshawn Bread of House of Sutai, and Justin Jacob Louis, each of whom will bring their unique vision and craftsmanship to the forefront.

Notably, Leslie Hampton, known for her inclusive approach to fashion and commitment to diversity, will also be gracing the SNFW runway. Hampton’s presence underscores the event’s dedication to celebrating Indigenous identity while challenging mainstream fashion norms.

Known for her striking designs inspired by the traditions of the Acoma Pueblo, Towering Stone’s Lauren Aragon joins the lineup alongside Maria Hupfield, whose innovative work blurs the boundaries between fashion, art and performance.

The stellar line-up will be joined by Orlando Dougie, Patricia Michaels, Kauluke, Randi Lee Burton and Victoria’s Arctic Fashion, each of whom will bring their own unique perspective and cultural influences to the runway.

SNFW is a significant milestone in the fashion world, providing a platform for Indigenous designers to showcase their talent, reclaim their stories and celebrate their cultural heritage. With a diverse lineup and commitment to authenticity, the event promises to be a vibrant celebration of Indigenous creativity and resilience.
