For almost a year, a love triangle of hatred has been playing out between Seth Rollins, Drew McIntyre and CM Punk. It all started when the first two did not welcome the Chicago native back to WWE. After months of harsh words and moments of physical confrontation, at Money in the Bank 2024, their dispute revolved around the World Heavyweight Championship. The champion, Damian Priest, successfully defended the title against Visionary, but before that, the Scottish warrior won the title and was defeated by Best in the World. In the latest episode of Monday Night RAW, it was announced that CM Punk and Drew McIntyre will face each other at SummerSlam. However, due to the decision of Adam Pearce, this confrontation will also include a special referee.
We didn’t have to wait long to find out who the referee for this match would be, because it was Seth Rollins. He wasted no time in adding more fuel to the fire of the rivalry between McIntyre and Punk. CM Punk knows the dislike Rollins has for him, so this action must have infuriated him. Seth Rollins may have lost his heavyweight championship belt at WrestleMania, but he’s still the undisputed fashion king of WWE. Since his return in 2021, the visionary has been a highlight of the promotion with his amazing outfit choices, with the help of stylist Troy Anthony. However, it seems CM Punk isn’t a big fan of his fashion sense. In fact, he decided to poke fun at his fashion sense during a recent appearance at San Diego Comic-Con.

Punk joined the panel and answered some questions from the fans. In one of them, a fan asked Punk about the terms of his next match. Being the foul-mouthed WWE mercenary that he is, Punk had a tough answer ready. He said, “Next match? Well, the terms are, that idiot’s the referee. Look, anything beyond that would be putting hats on top of hats on top of hats. That’s what he’d do. So, look, I’m just trying to get punched in the face. I don’t care where it is.”

It will be interesting to see how the WWE drip god responds. As for Punk, judging by his confidence, he seems more than ready for his next match. What’s even more motivating for him is the fact that he’s finally enjoying his time with the Stamford-based promotion, something he never did during his time with Vince McMahon. But he now insists he won’t be leaving the promotion anytime soon. In fact, if things were as they are now, he probably wouldn’t have left in 2014 either.

CM Punk returned to WWE in November 2023 after a nine-year hiatus. His return was unthinkable to the majority of fans, and although rumors began to surface after he was fired by AEW two months prior, it was still hard to believe as his relationship with WWE had been fractured since leaving in 2014. In an interview with Dennis Salcedo at San Diego Comic-Con, CM Punk stated that he would not have left WWE in 2014 if the company at the time was like it is now, with Triple H and Nick Khan at the helm and a completely different work environment.

He said, “Honestly, if WWE was where it is now, I would never have left. Everything that happened, all the arguments, all the conflicts, the injuries and burnout and feeling like management didn’t listen to me – none of that exists in the atmosphere today. I don’t want to waste time thinking, ‘Oh, I should have done this, or I could have done that.’ I think what makes my return so special is all the history, all the time that has passed. Now we’re here and it’s a happy moment for me.”
In this same interview, CM Punk spoke about returning to WWE in 2023 and how things have become much easier with Vince McMahon leaving the company. Well, fans will be happy to see that Punk is finally happy with the promotion. Now he must face his biggest hurdle and get in the ring with Drew McIntyre.
