The Indianapolis 500 appears to be taking a page from the Masters’ fashion strategy.
International Motor Speedway presents race winners with a jacket to let them know they’ve joined the ranks of winners.
IMS announced the new tradition via social media on Friday. Photos of past Indianapolis 500 winners He will be wearing a new blue single-breasted blazer with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway logo on the left breast pocket.
“IMS is pleased to have commissioned a special #Indy500 Winner Jacket to commemorate membership in the most elite of all motorsports clubs, the Indianapolis 500 Champions Club,” the motorsports organization posted on X. “The jackets were presented to the winners today at the Yard of Bricks.”
Jackets were made for all 30 living Indy 500 winners, as well as IMS owner Roger Penske. Jackets were presented to 23 past winners on Friday. Gil de Ferran’s family was also presented with a commemorative jacket.

This year’s Indy 500 winner will receive two special jackets
This new ritual means the winner of the 2024 race will add two champion jackets to his or her wardrobe: a new blue standard jacket and one commissioned by IMS from sportswear designer Kristin Juszczyk to be created specifically for the 108th Indianapolis 500. The winner will receive a customized blue blazer.

The 108th Indianapolis 500 is scheduled to take place on May 26th.

Driver introductions will begin at 11:47 a.m. ET and the race will start at 12:45 p.m. ET.

In most parts of the country, the race can be watched on NBC and will be available to stream on Peacock.
As of Friday afternoon, a decision on whether power outages would be lifted in central Indiana had not yet been announced.
