(From Hancock Historical Museum)

On Thursday, August 1st at 12pm, stop by the Hancock Museum of History, 422 West Sandusky Street, and take a break for lunch to enjoy our monthly Brown Bag Lecture Series, featuring a talk by Dr. Robert C. Chidester, Director of Cultural Resource Services for The Mannik & Smith Group, Inc., on “Urban Archaeology.”

Dr. Robert Chidester is Director of Cultural Resource Services for Manick & Smith Group, Inc., where he has served as the company’s Senior Archaeologist since 2009. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Heidelberg University in Tiffin and his PhD in Anthropology and History from the University of Michigan.

For most people, the word “archaeology” conjures up images of long-lost civilizations. But any archaeologist will tell you that archaeology is everywhere, even in your own backyard. Archaeologists from the Manick & Smith Group have been conducting archaeological surveys in and around Findlay since 2009 as part of the Blanchard River Flood Mitigation Program.

In this presentation Dr Chidester will discuss recent excavations which have shed light on the everyday life of Findlay’s working class residents in the first half of the 20th century.

The museum’s Brown Bag Lecture Series, scheduled at noon the first Thursday of each month and covering a variety of topics related to Hancock County and the state of Ohio, is free for members and open to non-members for regular museum admission.

Registration is not required.

For more information, visit Hancockhistoricalmuseum.org or call 419-423-4433.
