My name is Christina Abbott and I have worked in the fashion and luxury industry for over 40 years. I have worked in retail, retail management, PR, events, marketing, buying and styling. I’ve also worked as a consultant, a personal shopper and built businesses within brands. I’ve worked with governments, royalty, celebrities and high profile business leaders, dressing people in front of the camera and have done a lot of TV, radio and editorial work.
It sounds glamorous, but it involves lots of early mornings and long periods away from home, and it takes a toll on your health and personal life, but it’s an incredible opportunity.
I don’t want to be a Christian who works in the fashion industry. I want to be that same person in every aspect of my life, every day. I love styling beautiful things and people. I know what it does to them. When you dress someone nicely, they feel more confident. Looking good is important, but it shouldn’t consume us or become our source of identity.
Those who work with me know that I am a Christian. This industry is my place of service. I strive to lead my team with kindness and respect, to listen and to be a leader who always has time. The fashion industry is a bit crazy and very fast-paced. I still keep in touch with the people who have built and shaped my career over the years.
I love praying for and encouraging others. I have prayed for my colleagues in Downing Street before meetings and on airplanes. I always try to be generous and open about difficult things and talk about my faith. I don’t always have to teach people Bible passages. There have been times when I have had to make difficult decisions to do the right thing and I have received criticism and blame.
The fashion industry has a terrible reputation. I have never worked in the supply chain, but I am sorry that the industry has ever engaged in unethical behavior. I have always tried to do all I can to make the world a better place. Please pray that Christians in the fashion industry would find other Christians who will support and encourage them.
